02 — HOW I WORK
Came to design
through code.
I graduated with a degree in Computer Science and worked as an analyst, tester, and developer before moving into design. That background changes two things: how I communicate with development teams, and what I consider a reasonable design decision within technical constraints.
I start with research. Not because it is a mandatory step in a process, but because decisions that cannot be explained tend to get reversed in the first difficult meeting.
And I document as I design. In my most recent project, I centralized the entire discovery process in Confluence, so the team could trace the reasoning behind each decision months later.
03 — ABOUT MARTHA

I'm a Product Designer with a software engineering background. I started in 2013 working on software development projects at the University of Informatics Sciences in Havana, under a training contract while completing my degree, and stayed on as an employee after graduating in 2016.
I came to design through engineering. I led IoT and industrial automation projects, and along the way I realized that what interested me most wasn't the system itself, but the person who had to use it. In 2021, I moved to the Dominican Republic, and since then I've worked across public health, energy, and banking.
At different points, I've been the only designer in a company, and I've also worked as part of a design duo. I've mentored junior designers and learned from peers at the same level. In my last team, my colleague taught me about cross-platform visual design while I taught him how to articulate UX decisions.
Outside of work, I spend time with my family, cook, and make soap. All three have more to do with design than they might seem.
